i have a PS3 and the blue ray drive is playing up.it doesnt like dragging disc's in even though there only 1/2 way in it spits them out fine.
now i've had the drive and i still cant suss out the problem.the other thing is , the dvd drive looks different from all the other one's in video's on the net , for instance the black plastic cover has 2 clips on the side and two screws holding it in place as apossed to 5 screws.

does anyone know what model drive this is ? and , can i replace the drive with any PS3 drive ?.


MODEL No SONY PS3 CECHM03 the BLUE RAY DRIVE has just one large ribbon cable connection to the console.

M is an 80GB which should have a drive in it with a metal bottom. You shouldn't be able to see the blu-ray board. If you can see it when picking it up, you may have the wrong board.
Also, if it is not taking disks in properly, check the two clips at the front of the drive (You need to open the drive), there should be a little pin (metal prong) holding both of the clips on, if they arent holding the clips in then thats your problem. While you are in there, check you have two lasers insteat of one, if theres on you are wasting your time.

There should be a serial on the side which will allow you to identify the model of PS3 that you have.

It's a 80GB CECHM is the serial number for an 80GB see the bottom of the OP.

i've stuck some pics of the inside of the drive so if anyone see's anything uptoward please highlight it.

Yep, thought so, Your runners which guide the disk in are either broken or missing. One is there, the other is missing. It was in your first picture.

can you highlight were its missing ? or a shot of the missing bit ?.im not sure whats actually missing or broken.

Hi m8,

I have uploaded what is wrong.

The green is correct and has the needed bits. The RED is the one which doesn't have these bits but you NEED them in order for it to load a disk correctly because these guide the disk into the drive.
