Dead tm6900HD combo after power cut
Last night our road experienced a power cut by the electricity company .i.e they cut the power on purpose to make some emergency repairs. I was watching a recorded program when this happened from the HDD.
This morning, the sat rec. is dead. There is no display. I thought it might be the fuse in the 13amp plug, but no that is fine. So, i thought maybe there is an internal fuse in the receiver that has blown, so i took the cover of but i can not see any fuse.
Help!
Is there any thing else i can try? Some sort of reset function... anything?
Failing that, is it possible that the power supply board is the problem and if so can that be bought cheaply or is it time to get a replacement receiver?

Re: Dead tm6900HD combo after power cut
Hello
Have you ever tried to put the latest official software 689 of 01-01-2010 and thereafter the last patch.
Otherwise if it does not work, you can ask the site Technomate ukMarc

Re: Dead tm6900HD combo after power cut
Hi Starman,
The receiver does not power up when plugged in to the mains.
It appears to be totally dead, BUT, the circuit board does get warm, so something is going on. Is there a red led on the main board or something to show that the main pcb is receiving power from the power pcb?

Re: Dead tm6900HD combo after power cut
If you have no indication of Boot on the front panel ...
Seems that nothing appears in your case , no symbols whatsoever.
Never open up your technomate receiver as the supplier will not like it (opened Seals)
Then you need to contact your supplier they will help you out.
Technomate even gives waranty after 2 years ! (if they are in a good mood)Last edited by wolftje; 11th September 2010 at 17:00.

Re: Dead tm6900HD combo after power cut
Hi Wolftje,
Yes, i had nothing appear on the front panel, like 'Technomate' or the time when in standby mode.
My receiver is about 2 1/2 years old. I bought it on Ebay and i'm sure the seller won't want to help now that it's so long ago.
Anyway, i had to open it up once before, because there was a loose power connection from the mains lead to the power switch on the back. This time i thought (hoped) it was a blown internal fuse that some eletronic equipment have.
I wonder if the firmware did not get wiped by the power cut... (?). Maybe i can connect it up using the old rs232 cable to my laptop and use the bootloader, and see if there is anyfirmware there at all.
I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks to everyone who's replied so far.
Cheers, what a great forum!

@Digi/Technomate Re: Dead tm6900HD combo after power cut
You could ask Technomate for a repair ? I'm sure they will do it at a minimal cost.
I'm sure You can ask Digidude here on the forum as well !
If nothing shows up at the front led it is dead
you could try to connect by serial nulmodemcable.
1. power off
2. connect serial nulmodem cable
3. launch Tm loader / Darkman / the new loader
4. choose com port and choose firmware,
5. put the loader in connect mode by clicking on connect
6. power up the Technomate
7. if it is still alive the loader will pick up the bootsignal and will upload firmware.
(But i doubt)
This goes for every Technomate receiver

Re: @Digi/Technomate Re: Dead tm6900HD combo after power cut
Hi Wolftje,
An update.
Using the rs232 cable to pc route is a no no. The pc does not see the technomate when i click on connect i.e. it's as if the receiver is not there at all. Connecting to a tm1500 is okay, so i know it is not the pc end.
Anyway, this morning, i used my multimeter to see if the power supply was working. And the good news is that it is! When it is supposed to be 2,5, or 12 volts, thats what it outputs. But when it should be 32v, i guess for the motor, i get about 28volts.
So i t seems the power board is okay but it is the main board that is dead.
Bugger.
Digidude, over to you for any ideas.
I doubt it will be worthwhile getting it repaired from technomate..

Re: Dead tm6900HD combo after power cut
The Technomate 6900HD has a tip 42 transistor, which can fail easily after a power surge. Mine showed 'LNB error' at the front.
If it is this then it is a relatively inexpensive repair.
Technomate in London will charge around £35 plus VAT. I used a company in Buxton, Digifix Ltd, which specialises in $ky repairs. They do not have the schematic diagrams for Technomates, but was able to my repair because by the symptoms Technomate kindly diagnosed the fault over the phone free of charge!
I paid Digifix £25. Spot on repair.in foro veritas
