Looks pretty official to me... Good things coming in 2.2
washingtonpost.com

from what i've read, 2.2 uses JIT and gives the nexus a 450% increase in Linpack scores (that's up to 37MFLOPS!!! from the stock 7).
I'm using JIT in my Hero and have gone from 2.1Mflops to 3.5
story
Some info on JIT
All Android devices could be getting a noticeable performance boost later this year. We have seen companies like Myriad pushing their Dalvik Turbo compiler which they claim offers “3x faster applications, richer game graphics and better battery life to Android”.
Myriad is working with carriers and handset makers to incorporate their software into their Android builds, but it looks Google might beat them to it.
Google has assembled their own team of engineers that is working on a Dalvik JIT Compiler for Android. JITstands for “just in time” compilation, and allows software to run faster by “compiling bytecode into native machine code at runtime which substantially increases performance”. I’m not going to pretend that I’m an expert on JIT, so I’ll defer to Wikipedia if you want the full scoop.
As some of you already know, JIT is in the Android repository and working right now. I’ve loaded the latest kernel that supports (correction: JIT has nothing to do with the kernel version, but some custom roms include both) it on my Nexus One and saw my benchmark scores go up 250-300%. It was cool to play with, but it was major unstable and the phone would reboot after several hours of use.
It looks like Google’s team might be close to releasing a stable version of the Dalvik JIT compiler. Two of them, Ben Cheng and Bill Buzbee, will be outlining their work at Google I/O in a session called “A JIT Compiler for Android’s Dalvik VM“.
In the session they will outline the design of a JIT Compiler designed for embedded Android devices. Topics of the session will include “an architectural overview, the rationale for design decisions and the special support for JIT verification, testing and tuning”.

ooooo the funny thing is i think the desire is fast enough but a little more couldnt hurt ;-)

If it makes my phone faster I'm for jit. I just wish they thought of jit sooner.
I'm really looking forward to apps 2 sd. I keep getting low space warnings on my phone.

Only reason I rooted my desire was for apps2sd.

I love my desire and it sounds great that it should get better. I wonder when 2.2 will come for the desire? Assuming it does of course![]()

Google today announced 2.2 FroYo version of the mobile OS to the world with some pretty sweet updates in features. The 4 main updates are
* Speed, Now 2-3X faster than 2.1 in a lot of applications including browser
* Market Updates now can be auto-installed once authorised or you can 'Update All'
* Applications can be installed to an SD card and moved between card and internal memory easily
* The phone can act as a MiFi hotspot sharing your data allowance with other WiFi Devices (yes even iPad!)
For more information check out the official video below
Update - HTC say that if you bought your HTC Android phone this year then it'll "likely" get the Android 2.2 update.

I've read a lot of speculation that carriers will try to disable tethering if they can. Makes sense considering mine tries to sell a hotspot and a second data plan separately. Hopefully, PDA Net will work with 2.2 if they manage to pull it off.

The custom ROM scene for the android is very healthy, there are oodles of ROMS to try once you phone has been rooted. When 2.2 is leaked, and it will be, like all the previous versions, it won't be long before we see 2.2 on all the major Android handsets, even if officially it will not be released for that platform.
Just like I am running 2.1 (SuperHero 1.1.0) now on my Hero, since the official update is taking forever to come out.

hi daveleebond the main reason i got my hero was because of the sense UI so is the vanilla series of roms really that much faster than MCR3.2 rom that i use with the sense UI and i see that the camera has a green tinge so it is not really a usable camera what are your thoughts
