Its nothing to do with charging, they went bust because they were the biggest and argubly the best search so a natural target for RIAA to come after. Shame, they will be missed in the same way supanova. Made downloading very easy and that was their downfall.

I wonder how much longer usenet will go on in its current form, I can imagine the other indexing sites are next and they are also going after the usenet service providers as well.

I might be wrong but it wont be long before it reopens under another name and slightly modified code so its more stealth ie invite only etc.
 
They invented the .nzb format so you have more to thank them than you realise, and they changed sweet FA, you could even share your account with mates.

Especially if you paid at the end of the year in their 1/2 price top ups, I think it worked out at a quid a month or something.

Yup, nzbmatrix is the only real substitute i feel. Use to use them in tandum, toward the end matrix was used more.

I just hope they they learn from newzbin and put in procedures when they get targeted, id say next.

Lamenting the departed site? Dreading doing Usenet the old skool way? Think the clone NZB sites suck?

Good news: we are Newzbin Two, and we have glad tidings:
NEWZBIN IS BACK! and we are the new management. The crew got most of the original Newzbin source code and the main databases.
We loved it too much to let it die.

The catch? We wont be up for a very short while cos things need to be done. For starters we need a cool domain name; also we need to hack on the code some more to make it run. We are nearly there but it is very complicated. We reckon we'll up very soon.

So don't drift off to those lame-ass wannabe NZB sites. Hang on for a little longer and the Big Dog will be back.

I got this email too but didn't want to post in case it jeopardised the setup etc. the powers that be are no doubt watching for this especially as the journal for this site publicly states the source code and databases were "stolen".
 
Actually I am fooking annoyed all the e-mail addresses got stolen and would trust a site which was started with stolen code (if it was stolen). I think Ceasium has given a status update to one of the blogs following this story basically saying he is out of the game now.

Actually the whole usenet thing is reaching a turning point now. Dam thing got too easy and too popular. First they go after NZB sites and now the third bollywood movie I tried to download has been pulled from giganews.
