As per title really. Could you pay channels say on a DM500s using a "3 Mobile" dongle as your internet connection ? Ie just slot the thing into your usb slot on the dm500s and away you go sort of thing ? (With proper cline already in place of course)

yes with the right reciever (and setup) and setup to the right server running the right software mate

Using a 3G router m8, yes, i dont think the dongle will plug directly into the receiver though

Ah thanks for the answers peeps. I have a DM800s myself but wanted to know for friends who live in the countryside with no broadband ect (They use a dongle for internet). It seems I have assumed that the dm500s has usb and having just checked along with you guys replies it seems i was wrong lol....not the 1st time in my life lol.

What about a TM600 - it has USB slots Could you connect the Dongle straight onto one of these slots ? Or are you going to need the router no matter what (If you own only a dongle for internet)

I'm only tested SD 28.2 chans over cccam using this method and it worked great ;)

a couple of things:

1) surely reciving shares should help surpass the 2gb monhtly download limit set by the likes of 02 broadband no?

2) is there a way to monitor bandwidth within the freambox/technomate?

3) no current 'decent' boxes with or without usb ports will support usb dongles atm.

4) can an out of subscription dongle be used as a simple wireless network adaptor and use it to plug into the 3g wireless router which would inturn be plugged into the dreambox? Ie if you already have wifi in the house would the dongle be able to pick it up and give the box wifi finctionality?

Bandwidth usage should be very low - certainly less than 10k per minute so that would work out at a requirement of less than 500Meg over the course of a month (assuming 24 hour per day connection). In reality you'd probably use less than a third of that bandwidth.

tbh though, for various reasons I'd be very reluctant to use a mobile dongle for CS type applications. The main reason being, of course, they aren't exactly reliable at maintaining connection for any length of time.

is any new f/w needed for the dm500c or is just the camm's ? cheer s

yeah, you use the same image
you just need to download the cams.

although cable cs is not public knowldge yet.

i have just tried this on my 3g router to see if it works, and only problem i have is about every 10seconds the picture will freeze for 1second and start up again, anyone else had the same problem

do you have to change anything in the config file, my one freezes up and 10 seconds

i would say forget the dongle idea, but if you must use 1 then make sure it is three network

1, you will need to get a GSM router that supports the dongle so you can plug into

2, o2 and other networks use internal ip adresses which will make it near impossable to get your dydnsor no-ip host name updated

3, response times on mobile networks is poor. the best i could get was around 150ms using hspda and that is living 50 meters away from the mast

4, all mobile networks dont use hspda all the time only when you start downloading something it will jump from gprs to hspda and on gprs response times were even slower around 300-400ms. there is a work around but will require a constant ping to a web site to keeps hspda mode alive

5, altho it is a nightmare and not very easy to set up it does work ok for most providers, uk sly nds was a serious problem cause they require very quick response times. breaks and freezes are to be expected

your dyndns and no-ip account can be set up within your linux box. there is a plugin that allows you to do that.

i know it can be set in the box or the router itself, however the mobile networks apart from three use some daft system of internal and external ip adresses that constantly change and will never match your host name. your host name syncs to there internal ip's rather than your external ip

was trying it as a client, every 10 seconds it would freeze up,
