Got a letter of united utilities saying

"Important Notice - Your Electricity Meter is now due to be exchanged"

"To ensure the continued accuracy and safety of your electricity meter,it is important that it is exchanged.
All meters have to be replaced periodically under the terms of the Electricity Act."

Is this true and is there such a Act? and do i have to agree to them changing my meter?

"Older type meters will be replaced with modern electronic meters that operate in exactly the same way"

i have one of them old ones with the dial spinning around they come and read it a few times a year and im happy with the cost of the eleccy i use
heared storys once they change your meter to one of these new one's the bills suddenly start to increase even though you are using the same amount of eleccy as before they put the new meter in.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

So what you really mean is your fiddling your lecky and it will stop if they change the meter.
So how can I stop them changing the meter?

I would not know how to do that if i wanted or needed to which i dont
There is no hidden meaning in my first post, people have said when they have had a new meter fitted there bills start to rise or there forever topping up with the cards if they put one of those in

If you are going to accuse me of doing something have the evidence to back it up if not STFU

mrs took day off tosser turned up and then said oops I aint got the right meter to fit....

The way I see it my usage has been constant for years so if they fit a new one and it goes up I will **** them up and down all my records are on line

I suppose its their gear mate so they can do whatever they want really, just surmising though.

I had an old style meter for years m8, changed it last year, same letter, with Scottish Power though, and they can change it, only option u have ( I learned too late) is change provider, try one one moneysupermarket, prob get a good deal, and keep ur old meter. As for dearer bills, need to ask the mrs, she deals wi that.

guys what's the easiest way then to 'sort' an older black electric meter out?

something we may not be able to talk about on open forum i think.upgrading happened to me also on gas meter as maybe they are not built to last anymore.

My meter was changed without notice about 5 years ago and my bills went down.
They just turned up at the door and said it had to be changed.
