Dish/LNB options

Hi guys,

I will soon be looking to set up Freesat on my Panasonic G10 Plasma. Currently there is an old unused sky dish on the front of my house. When I switch to Freesat I was thinking of ditching the old dish and buying a new dish and LNB. My question is for a quality picture in the Shrophire area could I get away with an Orbital 80cm dish and single Tenchnomate Gold 0.1db LNB or should I be looking at a bigger dish? Also, would this be ok to plug straight into my Freesat enabled TV (must be surely - just asking cos there is a voltage apparently)?

I thought about trying the old dish and LNB but I get annoyed by interference so thought I would just replace it...

Cheers in advance - Padda

Re: Dish/LNB options

if its an unused sky digital dish, just plug it straight into the sat input on your telly m8, and youll be sorted, thats all that gets installed for freesat, is a standard zone 1 45cm minidish

Re: Dish/LNB options

with digital signals m8, there is no quality issues, they suffer from whats called the 'cliff effect' you have a great signal, then its gone. if its slightly offline then you may have issues in the rain, but age itself will have no impact on the quality of the signal

Re: Dish/LNB options

Along the same line..

I have a small sky oval dish on the wall which has a geo universal g88 digital lnb on it though no cable attached

My panny tx-42v10b tv has freesat built in which I presume is HD.. as the tv and freeview is.. My question is will the lnb work for freesat HD or do I need a HD lnb?

Regards.

Re: Dish/LNB options

as long as the dish is alaigned ok, itll work m8, a universal (now standard) lnb picks up the signal that carried the HD broadcasts with no problems

an HD compatible LNB is a marketing gimmick to hype up an existing product

I can confirm what Digidude has said. He his very helpful! I connected my tv up to a very old 60cm oval dish and LNB that had been unused for ages yesterday. Works a dream!

Re: Dish/LNB options

in freesat mode, youll get BBCHD on channel 108 and ITVHD when broadcast on 103 via the red button

in non freesat mode youll also get LUXE tv HD and i think one or two others, if you also introduce something like a dragon cam and an expired sky card into the CI slot on the back of the tv, youll also then get 4HD and E4HD, but you will lose the use of the freesat EPG
