Re: dvd drive not showing in vista

i've had this before. i'm guessing you replaced you old one? it thinks it's still the old one.

go into Device Manager, right click and select 'uninstall' to remove it completely. Then reboot. hopefully, it should install it from fresh.

Re: dvd drive not showing in vista

Sounds like a driver issue to me but do what ManofScience has recommended and hopefully it should install once rebooted.

Re: dvd drive not showing in vista

it is.

Try it a different way then. Take it out and boot the PC up with no DVD drive in. Shut it down and reconnect it. when you log on, you should see the 'installing new hardware..' bubble

Re: dvd drive not showing in vista

I found this on another website not sure if this will relate to your problem

1. First check in device manager in vista/xp to check if the DVD drive is getting detected. Usually if its a registry problem, the DVD drive will be detected in the device manager but it will also have a yellow exclamation mark on the DVD drive device entry which will be clearly visible. If this is the case, then simply follow the below link to fix it automatically by running an installer rather than manually messing around with the registry settings as this can harm you computer.
2. Here's the link - http://tinyurl.com/dxxcwt
3. Once you login here you will be presented with option to "save" or "run" the file. Please choose "save" and save the file in a place where you can access it. Once downloaded, run the downloaded installer file named "MicrosoftFixit50027.msi" by just double clicking on it. After installing you will have to reboot the computer and thats is all. You will have your DVD/CD drive back in the Operating System.
Hope this helps :D
