Housing Advice

Hi all, i am in a crap situation here and need some advice. Me and my girlfriend are living at her mothers (god help me! lol) anyway i moved there on the terms that we would live there for 3-4months while we get a place. So i have been saying to the girlfriend (pregnant) got to the housing place (notts) with a letter from your mum stating your mum will only let you live there for a month as there is no space etc. Hopefully then she would be put in band 1 and start bidding for houses. Anyway she is saying to me " no i cannot, it would affect my mums benefits that she receives, as i work". I am saying well if it does affect her money we will give it her back as we are both working and need a bigger place to live. We cannot live in one room with a baby. Anyway guys, whats your advice??.... (will it affect her benefits, will it be long to get on the council list and start bidding in this situaion??... her working also surely you would get a home faster??...)

Its catch 22 as we cannot afford private rent either. I mean she walked out of the last place due to it costing too much. ( I paid bloody £600 for rent in advance and deposit etc)

Cheers,
Nick.

Re: Housing Advice

quickest way to get council housing is go in to a homeless unit "A lot are shit holes" but at least its some were to sleep.Even if you do say you only have a month b4 you have to move out of the outlaws sorry inlaws. If you dont have a property by then they will just move you in to 1 anyway "homeless unit"

good luck m8 in your housing probs

Re: Housing Advice

Thanks guys. Private landlords charge more than council so we would struggle with payments. Mainly the deposit and months in advance. Would totally want to avoid going into a homeless unit, that would not be something she would ever consider! lol

God, women!!!!!!!
Rent private and get help towards your rent...my nephew rent a £700 place and the council pays £600 towards his rent!!!...all because his income is low, he has a baby and his girlfriend dont work cos shes at home looking after the baby...

Re: Housing Advice

And dont let the Mrs deal with it!!!!

I dunno, maybe because she is pregnant she dont need all this stress.
I remember last time you said she messed up the paperwork or something.

Deal with everythin yourself, yes it will be stressful but once you do it all right it wont bite you.

Re: Housing Advice

M8 the council wont give a shite about your in-laws saying you only have 1 month before you get kicked out as my brother told them that when living with my dad and he had to move into the YMCA and then his partner got a property so moved in with her, is she already on the waiting list for a property and are you looking for flats or 2 bedroom houses as you won't be given anything else.

When me and my partner got our first place it was a flat and she then fell pregnant, we had to wait a year before we could bid on any propertys at all, and even then we would have been waiting years before we actually got given a property but then the wifeys mom moved into her partners and we had a exchange with her after the year was up so got out that way.

Go into the housing office and ask weather you are a priority or even check online if yo are already registered there is a section where you input your customer number and reference details and it will tell you if you are a priority and what properties are available.

Mate your best bet is to do it all through your GF, dont mention you at all. Since she is preg, she will move right up the list. The once you get a house, you just notify that your moving in.
