computer making clicking noise

As the title says clicking noise seems to be comming from the hard drive , when i start up the pc up and then try use the internet or any progam the screen will lock up and the clicking will start. But if i start up in safe mode everything is ok no clicking, i have done a system restore but it made no diffference

Any ideas

my harddrives done this and then failed but i sent them back to seagate and they replaced them not saying this would happen to you but it did for me

As slyboy just said hard drive on the way out if you got any important files on your pc i would try and back them up as soon as possible

thanks for the replies thought the same thing myself the only problem i have is how do i install a new hardrive as i have no idea of installing vista onto a blank hardrive

take out old hd, put in new hd, put in dvd, turn on system, follow instructions on screen

but first as a matter of urgency get any files you want from the old hd - at the very least remove it from the system as it could die at any time, and while it's runnign it may be (its likely to be) trashign more of your files on a continous basis - and when it does thats it - kaput - unless you want to spend several hundred on data recovery that is

You could use acronis migrate easy. Its a free download and you can use it for 30 days i believe. It copies your old drive to your new one.

What happened to all the files on the "clickety click"?
I,d be more pissed off losing them than re installing an op.
