i just want to clear up a few things on the subject of IPTV been the next move for cable in the UK.
here's 3 reasons why it wont take off in the UK for a good few years;-
1)-Huge US telco incumbents SBC and Verizon are making vast investments into IPTV services. SBC hopes to have 18 million homes hooked up to its service (project 'Lightspeed'). They are investing $4 billion into the project.
virrmin's budget is 30 bob,and the majority of the UK dont have access to a cable feed.
2)-The scalability and management of content, billing and customer systems are also of concern. High support costs will immediately kill off revenues and customer interest.
virrmin employing more staff while there laying folk off ???
3)-There's no standardisation among requirements for conditional access and digital-rights management.
Government regulatory issues will figure highly in the success or failure of IPTV in key regions.
this basically means the gov will shit over licence fee's and who has rights to what ??.
there's also the Bandwidth problem in the UK which is basically shite.i remember 8 years ago on file sharing progs and ppl in the scandinavian countries pulling 50meg then while it was taking me 27 hrs for virtua tennis for the dreamcast and its taken us that long to catch up.
there's only so many turds you can sqeeze into a bottle neck before it clogs !.
encryption will be virmin's tool to stop what's going on not IPTV.
