I have a budget of a maximum £750.

Me and a friend are buying this TV for PS3/Laptop Gaming, HD/Blue Ray Movies and Sports - Especially Football!

So far I have seen that I liked -

LG 42LH7000 42" 1080p LCD TV

or

LG 42LH5000 42" 1080p LCD TV

We were recommended these TV's when we went to the stores and the picture quality seemed really good.

The USB port is a huge bonus as we have many videos we could watch from the external HD.

What would you guys suggest?

Any Panasonic plasma in your budget would do just nicely.

Agree totally :) while LG are good I dont think they are on par with a good panasonic :)

E.g

PANASONIC TXP42G10B at Richer Sounds - HI-FI Separates, Home Cinema, Speakers, MP3 DVD Portables, Plasma LCD, etc.

PANASONIC TXP42X10 at Richer Sounds - HI-FI Separates, Home Cinema, Speakers, MP3 DVD Portables, Plasma LCD, etc.

Do not know what the actual models above are like, but going from my Panasonic they have a great pic :)

I could be wrong but I think you can only use usb port for photos/music because tv does not have the codecs to watch videos. My bro has the LG 47" and really likes it but I dont think videos worked on it.

PCworld and Dixons have the 47" 1080p LG LCD TV for £699 at the minute.

some of the newer tvs have dlna media server player thingys,i know mine has-i can play avis mp4 and such, stream from online and watch cable(well for a few month lol) all from my tv

Thanks for the response guys.

I'm pretty confused - I was told LCD's are better then Plasma's due to colour issues and prolonged viewing can cause image blogs on the screen?

Which TV would you guys recommend maximum £750?
Plasma or LCD?
I will also need a wall bracket and installation onto the wall.

why not get a led tv ive heard very good things about them

from what i understand plasmas are better for watching sd in good quality-lcds look poor on sd-mine does anyway

but hd on lcd and it looks stunning

to be fair i think theres very little bettween the 2 now-the burn in on plasma seems to be a thing of the past now-and ive never once noticed and sreen blur on sport or fast moving scenes on my lcd

for what its worth id happily recommend the one i have a philips 8 series ambilight

Philips - 8000 series LCD TV 47" Full HD 1080p digital TV - 47PFL8404H/12 - 8000 series - Televisions - Sound and vision

this is what ive got and it spot on

How much is that TV?
As you know my budget is around £700 so don't want to be spending too much, as I need the installation apart of the package.

I'd buy this if you're a shrewd punter or if you must have the 1080p badge buy this.

Have a read of this written by Hawkish, it pretty much sums up the whole TV scene right now.

Hmmm what makes the Viera better than the LG 42LH7000 42" 1080p LCD TV?

Just been told to go for
PHILIPS 42PFL7404H

Guys please help me decide which one is best as an all rounder?

This one if you want Freesat, Panasonic TX-42G10 Dixons price £711. Or this one if you already have Pay TV Panasonic TX-42S10 Dixons price £649. Alternatively you could go for any LCD panel you like but the picture will not be as good as any current Panasonic plasma. They are the market leaders in TV manufacture now that Pioneer have dropped out, and you will not find a better all round panel. If you want to save the planet buy an LCD if you want a good picture buy a Plasma.
Here are a few links for reviews of the above panels. AV Forums, HDTV Test

id go the series above m8 the 8000 series if your looking at philips, all my friends comment on how good the picture quality is on it-even a couple of plasma owning friends

Which model are you on about?
My budget is at £700

Need a 42" and not more than £700 and the one you have stated is over £900.
Well out of my budget m8 but nice TV!

If i was you i would go for the Panasonic munkey has posted it is a good tv. I wouldn't worry about image burn on screen mate its highly unlikely to happen i too was after a LCD at the time but the image quality on SD was not good and i had a look at the plasma side and really haven't had any problems at all.

I would say go for the 42" Panasonic its a great tv and under your budget of 700 and you could use the money saved from there for a home cinema kit!
