A ram was hailed as sheer perfection yesterday after being snapped up for a record £231,000.

The six-month-old Texel beat the £205,000 paid in Australia in 1989 - and smashed the £128,000 UK record set in 2004.

And experts reckon the "staggering" price paid by farmer Jimmy Douglas for Deveronvale Perfection will prove to be a bargain.

John Yates of the Texel Sheep Society said previous UK record holder Tophill Joe earned its owner £1million in stud fees.

He said: "The staggering amount surprised many. A lot of people see these animals as lamb chops, but these flocks are at the top of the genetic pile. This was the elite animal that stood out."

New owner Mr Douglas said Deveronvale was the best Texel tup he had seen.

He said: "There was a photo of him in the Scottish Farmer. I had to have him."

The ram, which was bred in Banffshire, sold at the Texel ram sale in Lanark.

A sheep is believed to have become the world's most expensive after selling for £231,000.

Deveronvale Perfection, bred in Banffshire, was bought by a fellow local sheep farmer at a sale in Lanark.

The tup lamb will be used for breeding in the hope of more than recouping the purchase price.

The UK's previous most expensive sheep, Tophill Joe, was bought for £128,000 six years ago. He died recently after fathering lambs worth more than £1m.

Jimmy Douglas said Deveronvale Perfection had a good body

Graham Morrison's eight-month old lamb Deveronvale Perfection was sold to Jimmy Douglas.

The high price has been put down to the lamb's strong physical attributes.

Seller Mr Morrison said the price was beyond his "wildest dreams".

However, he said the sheep lived up to his name and was indeed "perfection".

New owner Mr Douglas said the Texel sheep was as good as he had seen, with a good body.

Deveronvale Perfection could also eventually have his semen sold.

But you have to remember that farmers don't have much money and they struggle to survive with the supermarkets dictating prices

IVE spent a bit time reading prevoius posts over the few days is dutcho and digi dude g@y lovers are something stranger do the really like humping sheep im confused and theres quite a few sheep pics and posts on this site.
