Re: VM and Netgear WiFi Router

Are you using the correct MAC address when you try to enable telnet ?

Think you have to use the MAC of the LAN ports rather the WAN ports. If you use the wrong one then it seems to work be you wont get a response when you try to telnet.

the only MAC address is on the back of the router, which matches when I do a arp -a on command line

Re: VM and Netgear WiFi Router

What firmware have you updated to.

The link below is the correct one for the UK version

ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/WG....6_18.0.17.chk

You need to use IE as Firefox may well cause a problem as is known to happen on netgear products

Think thats the MAC of the WAN port - you need to use the MAC for the LAN port which you can get from the modems web pages.

Maintenance -> Router status -> LAN port -> MAC

This will be different to the WAN MAC printed on the router labels !!!

The procedure does work - I just unlocked one last week without problem (once i'd read the instructions )

Re: VM and Netgear WiFi Router

Not a great deal over other general run of the mill 54 Mbps routers napster m8. The WGR614L has a tad more difference but not of any significance.

Pretty much nothing tbh, especially on the V6 boxes !

The custom VM firmware is actually a later offering than the standard firmaware on offer from Netgear for the V6. Not sure about the V9 but wouldn't suprise me if the same applies.

There's a possibility that dd-wrt will go on some of the routers supplied by VM but you need to open em up to check the flash chip size and jtag availability. Some are jtaggable and some aren't !
