To be honest, i still prefer to older way of doing it, mainly because you can fine tune settings. Also doing it the old way supports streaming to the iphone over 3g... but nonetheless, this way is good if you have always wanted to stream your dreambox but never quiet could!

Enjoy!

works for me buddy and as you know i was having trouble doing it the old way, thanks a lot bud :D

This should almost defiantly work. Only issue you may have is that ISP's may block certain ports, so once you have forwarded them, double check they are open here... if for some reason they a still blocked, or connection times out, phone your ISP and tell them that you have a satellite receiver that requires an internet connection, and uses port 1234 (or whatever ports you need) for updates - or make up some other elaborate story :proud:

Damm. I will have to try this out as all other setup's have not worked for me so I bought a Slingbox Classic for £64 last week now got streaming working perfect but would have been nice to know this first.

Thanks

bit off topic, but does the slingbox classic support standalone free view? i know it has a tuner built in, but the connector is not an aerial connection, it looks like an f connector...

What i may get one for is; I have family abroad who would like to watch BBC (iplayer doesnt work outside of the UK and they are out of the footstep for the 28.2 astra sat) I dont want them to change the channels while im watching my dreambox, so if i buy one of these slingboxes, can i just connect the box to an aerial and my network, and let it stream freeview to them whenever they need it?

Hummm I can't see my ports, I have them forwarded but the site can't connect to them hence no stream over internet just lan...

Similar problem here...It works over my home network but when I try to connect via my broadband dongle..it dont????

Please look at my 2nd post in this thread... don't really want to repeat myself, but just for clarification:

if you cant stream, then port 1234 is not open properly for some reason!!!
This can either be due to it not being forwarded correctly (check ports here) or your ISP is blocking that port. Some ISP's block traffic on this port because port 1234 is commonly associated with Infoseek Search Agent's and other malicious software!

Unfortunately 1234 is also the VLC media player Default port for UDP/RTP streaming, which this program utilises!

If there is a way to amend these ports, i will post it here! until then speak with your ISP for a resolution... my ISP (orange) migrated me to a business account when i had issues with port 25 (smtp port for outgoing mail on my exchange server) free of charge - had to renew my contract though, but worth it!

I have sent the developer of the program an email - he replied and said that he will update the program so that the user can specify what port is allocated for streaming... This should certainly sort out any 'port forwarded, but still no connection' issues!

Will keep you all updated!

Thanks ruddyrum, appreciate it

I have received an updated program from the developer, and you can now specify the port that is used for streaming. you can also choose what codecs you wish to use to encode with for better compatibility, ie streaming to mobiles etc.

I am just waiting on his consent to redistribute this release, as he says it is still a work in progress - works flawlessly for me though!

in the meantime, here's a screen shot of the new config/settings page:

Here it is!!!

Choose your own ports and codecs  Apparently still a work in progress, but works absolutely fine for me! if this is a work in progress, i wonder what else will be added?!

Enjoy!

Latest stable Builds released - with user specified port setting!

Streamer

Reciever

Yes, they do exactly what they say... One streams, the other receives! You can of course also use your favourite media player to play the stream, however with the receiver you can also see you channels / bouquets and change the channel whilst watching the stream!

Enjoy!

Final update links have been confirmed to only stream over the internet with VLC 0.99 - Some say the nightly builds also work, however the latest vlc 1.0.0 will almost definitely not work when streaming over the internet, so; VLC 1.0.0 = LAN yes - NET No!

Older VLC versions can be found in the Video LAN Archive so grab yourself a 0.99 build of somesort!
