advice on cost of having a website

    hi all,

my partner has been developing a small business and has identified a need for a website.

she turned to me like she does for anything i.t. related (because i showed her how to use excel and put some ram in her p.c. lol) and truth is i'm starting from scratch!

question i have is ... the design and construction of the site shouldn't be a problem as lots of software and help available but once thats done and a domain name has been secured, what sort of cost does she then face in having the site 'live' ? does she pay so much a year/month ?

    any advice would be appreciated.

    regards

If your ISP gives you an amount of webspace to play with, you can store all your pages, files etc on that, and only pay for the domain name.

The one I used was UKREG.

They are currently charging as low as £2.95 pa for a .co.uk address

If its a simple website and if your ISP gives you free web space (like most do) then you could just use a domain register like freeparking.co.uk to register a domain (£10 for 2 years ?!) and get it to forward the URL to your free space (it masks your real URL with the domain you have registered so it looks professional).

I use this method for quite a few sites. Works a treat.
