Re: quitting smoking?

Good luck to you m8, its a hell of a thing to do, I keep telling myself I wil do it but I keep putting it off.

You may need to get someone to nibble on, last time I stopped...YES I did stop for a few years, I used to nibble on those wee baby corn things.

I really want to stop, maybe try next week when I am off work.

Re: quitting smoking?

I had a few attempts at it, and i always made the mistake of sayn, fck it I will just have one and so forth. So I just did it cold turkey and 7 months later and I have not had a single fag, the smell to me now is so bad I cant understand why I ever smoked. I did put on a stone or more in weight so you will need to watch for that but if you going to be keeping fit at same time you will be fine.

If your a heavy smoker then go for the patches then gradually come down to the lighter patches.

Fingers crossed mate hope you do it.

Unfortunately the weight issue is a problem, last time I stopped I put on almost 2 stone, I lost most of it when I started smoking again but that should not be an excuse for me, weight can be controlled if done right.

The OP has a good incentive, he wants to stop for his wedding.

To the OP....just go for it m8, it will be the best thing you can do for yourself and your wife to be, and lets be honest here, it will be benfitcial when kids come along.

@rodbouy..... well done on stopping, wish I had your willpower.

Re: quitting smoking?

Cheers Jaffa

I have 2 children now and my wee girl eva was 18 month when I gave up. I never smoked in the house and rarely smoked when I was on my days off, I only smoked in work and half the time it was out of pure habbit.

Your right the weight is a problem, I never had time to exercise ( poor excuse tho) I have now started to run 8k a night on my cross trainer and my god being able to breathe is so much easier now.

So if your exercising when your stopping, this will help you with the weight problem.

Go on Jaffa kick the habbit, You can do it and we can help

ps see when you get a craving it will last for a few min, just get up and do somthing that will take you mind off it then it will ease, the 1swt few weeks its murder but you get to control it and it gets way easier.

Re: quitting smoking?

ask your doctor or NHS stop smoking clinic for patches if you really want to quit it will be ok use the patches and change for a new 1 every morning i left mine on over night
the patches get smaller instages i didnt use stage 3 because when i put the first 1 on i got such a nicotine hit it made me high so i just stopped there and then stopping is easy not ever going back is harder you need a really good reason not to have 1 when a 'friend offers you 1' and then the smell will make you sick and you will think GOD DID I SMELL LIKE THAT every time a smoker comes near you because your sense of smell comes back and so does taste food tastes so much better
you have nothing to lose and a better life to gain not to mention more money to spend on what ever not just an addiction

Re: quitting smoking?

Go to your doctors mate and tell them you want to try Champix
I smoked for 17 years and tried to give up for the last 10,tried patches, gum and them plastic inhalers and none helped in the slightest.
In Febuary went to my GP and started on Champix which is a 12 week course, you can continue to smoke for the first 2 weeks then you pick a quit day in the second or third week.
The Champix targets a certain area in your brain that takes away the craving and also the satisfaction in case you do have the odd fag.
I was amazed how it worked and can now proudly say "im a non smoker" for over 3 months.
Give it a try mate its great stuff.
