im recovering my laptop from a virus from hell, and while some files are being cleaned/replaced, its asking for my xp home service pack 3 cd

xp is on a partition on the HDD and sp3 was a downloaded update

does anyone know how i can make an sp3 disk please?

Generally if im making up an integrated disc i use nlite, digi.

The sp3 iso should not take that long to d/l.
Did you set the download speed to its highest setting?

For burning or creating an iso i use IMG burner at x4 speed..

TBH digi, on the day MS gave away all that software i got a good sp3 iso and a few keys.
If you want a legit copy of xp with key for clean reinstall let me know..

i think ive fooked my laptop up

the disk wouldnt work, just kept asking for the xp home edition service pack 3 cd

i tried the sp3 on its own, xp with integrated sp3 and xp on its own

in the end i just shut it all off and started again, and windows setup ran, pressed R for recovery and it started installing windows files

got most of the way through, then it was saying stuff like insert disk for file D:\i386 explorer.EX_ and on clicking browse the explorer was there but without the .EX_ on the end

can i just buy a new hard drive, slap that in, install windows, then get the data i need to keep off the old drive?

really pissed off with it all now, and gutted as fook, a virus has somehow gotten in, and taken down every computer in the house, ive already formatted 2 PCs (one 3 times) and my other laptop, and was really hoping i wouldnt have to with this one

See when u made the boot disc did u use the microsoft img file and change boot sectors to 4 and no emulation?

If you wanting to put a new drive in then yes you can and buy an enclosure from ebay and copy your files from the old HDD, but again if its ravaged with VD then you will need to be carefull you dont give the new one AIDS too

this is (was) my main work laptop, with invoices etc on it, this virus hat into every hard drive i own so had to format them as was unable to get an data off them, so i did a system restore then tried to copy another of my backups from a memory stick to recover everything, then the memory stick was fooked as well

so the only copy of all my invoices etc is on this virus ridden hdd as my 3 seperate location backups have gone
