Original Wiikey

My brother inlaw has the original wiikey which was working fine playing backups/originals. However not sure what he did but it started to refuse playing originals and backups.

I did a wii firmware update (4.0e) so it now plays originals, however is refusing to play backups. Thought i would update the wiikey to firmware 1.9s (got the file form here, chopped version), used nero to burn it to -dvdr at 4x, however it does not read my burn.

Obviously doing something stupid, so any ideas.

Cheers

I am by no way an expert pal but if the chip has failed then I don't think it would play your firmware update disk, which would also account for it not now playing backups.

As I said I may be wrong though sorry.

Re: Original Wiikey

Well that did cross my mind mate, but also not to sure if the 4.0e upgrade would render the chip useless.

Re: Original Wiikey

Probably a dry/broken solder joint.

Open it and check the wiring.

Re: Original Wiikey

so am i right in thinking that if i burn the wikey.1.9s.pal.filechopped to a -dvdr that the wii should see this as a gamecube disk?

As its not seeing the disk I will check the wiring, but before i do that im going to try the above file on a -dvdr verb.

cheers for the help.

Re: Original Wiikey

Also don’t you think it’s weird that the wii firmware update (4.0e) made the wii read original disks again? Could be the firmware got corrupt, don’t know really just guessing, ill try the verb.

Re: Original Wiikey

The verb did not work either, so must be the wii key.

Re: Original Wiikey

Hi Highlander,

Home brew is not installed, however do you think if the firmware is dropped to 3.2E this will fix the back up problem.

If that is the case I will wait to see how the new firmware v1.11 downgrader pans out.

Cheers
