Hi All,

I wana get myself a XBOX but want to save cost.

Im thinkin of getting one without the HD.

Now...

a) can i put another drive in myself?

b) If yes are there nay tutorials out there

c) If not then what are my choices? Must be something that can be done?

Any one else tried anything similar?

A Harddrive is not essential mate, for years I used only a 512mb Memory card, things are much better with the Harddrive though.

You can use a laptop harddrive in the Xbox360 HD case but u are limited to 120Gb of storage regardless of how large your drive actually is.

K....so if i was to get the XBOX 360 with out the Hard drive....Then i can still buy a Hard Drive separately to put in myself.

I would think that there would be some kind off firmware? Do you know of any tutorials or anywhere i could read up on this before i decide.?

I take your point about using without Hard drive. Only thing i see is the loading times. So if i wanted to put one in after?

Loading times without a hard drive isn't an issue mate, afterall it's only a few months ago that it even became possible to load the games onto the hard drive at all.

Games load up pretty damn quickly from the DVD mate.

Remember though that the 360's hard drive is external, it's not simply a matter of opening the console and installing a harddrive. you will need an existing hard drive, remove the internal drive and replace it with your own larger one. You will also need a kit to write the necessary setup/security files to the drive before it can be used.

Is there any tutorials that you are aware off ?

The reason i ask about the hard drive is for the future. I just wanted to know whether if i got one with out the HD that i will be able to put one in, in the future. Just if i wanted to use it to store music in the future.

Is there a USB hard disk option? Ive heard others say that there is.

You can connect a usb harddrive you will not be able to use it for games storage or game saves, it'll only act as a media storage device.

You can add a microsoft hard drive to any of the 360, so don't worry if you can only afford the basic Arcade system, you can add the harddrive whenever you can afford to.

BTW, Microsoft were doing 20Gb harddrives for under £20 if you buy directly from them.

Might look into the 20gig HD. You say direct? How do yo u apprach them direct?

And you can upgrade from 20 Gig to 120 GIg? with a specific western digital drive? I hope i am correct...shoot me if im not.

@plexo - You mean you have Microsoft drives? or Westerrn digital drives that are flashed to work?

hi m8 they are clones, they are PROPER clones, not dodgy BAD refurbished second hand 20gb's with hacked WD drives that dont fit correctly... im using 1 myself at the min works fine
