Does anyone know if this is possible?

Simply transferring a TS file to the Technomate HDD results in a "no file found" message.

The Technomate creates 3 files in a folder named "Records" when it makes a recording:

1. an IDX file
2. an IFO file
3. a Transport Stream (ts) file

I can convert my Divx files into TS - but don't know how to make the other two types.

Any suggestions?

try copying the idx and ifo files to your PC, rename them to the same as the file youre about to load ontot the hdd, then send all 3 to the hdd and give that a bash m8

Thanks, Digidude, I have now cracked it.

1. Transcode the AVi file to TS using (free) QUICKMEDIA CONVERTER.
I used the "easy" setting.
2. Run the TS file through (free) ClarkeTech Movie Converter.
3. Transfer resulting folder into the £Records" folder on your Technomate HDD.
4. Select "Files" - and play!

I guess I have the opposite question: what do I need to do to the .idx, .ifo and .trp files that the TM creates on the HDD to make them readable on my PC with something that normally works with DVDs like Cineplayer? All help gratefully received. Thanks, Martin.

Try simply renaming the .trp file as a .ts
You'll need to accept the warning that it might not be playable, then play on the pc in something like media player.

Thanks Curly.

Changed it to .ts - Media Player gave the message you said, but then wouldn't play because it needed a codec. Much the same with Cineplayer - but it wanted a decoder. Thinking I might need an app to run it through?

Found this thread of use. However, could not get the "ClarkeTech Movie Converter" to work."

Instead I found on the net and ran successfully the CT Movie Maker program.

However, I am curious, how does one run the "ClarkeTech Movie Converter"? The file is CTMovieConverter_v1.01.rar

Thanks,
Geoff

You need a program called Unrar.exe and that will extract CT Movie Converter for you BUT CT Movie Converter DOES NOT create an .idx file for you - only the .trp and ifo. So use CT Movie Maker which does the lot !

I'm a newbie on both this forum as in using satellite TV. I've got a Technomate 7100 receiver and use an USB HD to record to.

No problem in
1. viewing a complete 2 hour recording on the Technomate 7100
2. viewing the .trp files using for example Mpeg Streamclip when I connect the HD to my mac.

However, this .trp file does not contain the complete recording. It is limited in size to 1.58 GB and the Technomate has limited each recording I've made to this maximum size. With shorter recordings (maximum about an hour or so) the .trp file is smaller in size and does contain the complete recording.

Except for the .ifo and .idx files, there are also two files with extension .001 and .002. My mac identifies the .001 file as a .rar file and the .002 as a Unix executable file (though this last might be wrongly identified).

Converting the .trp file to .mp4 or other data formats: no problem, but since this is not the complete recording, I want to join this .001 and .002 file into one and hopefully be able to play that too on my mac or pc and convert it to for example a .mp4 file.

I used winrar on a PC to do this and got error messages (invalid file structure). Using RAR expander on my mac also failed.

Can someone point me in the right direction how to go about this?

Cheers!

Have you tried this
Not sure what the Mac equivalent is

Use the copy command to combine all trp files into one .ts file. (The files are combined into one .trp file but the extension is renamed as .ts)
For example:
copy /b "xxx.trp"+"xxx.001"+"xxx.002"+"xxx.003" xxx.ts

Can u give me the download link for clarke Tech movie converter or suggest any other software to create IFO and IDX file
