Sony has reduced the price of the PS3 by up to £40 when purchased from its official online store Sony Style Portal.

Despite confirming that the PS3 would not receive a price cut before Christmas, Sony is offering the 40GB PS3 model for £249.99 - a saving of £40.

Another package sees an 80GB PS3 with LittleBigPlanet retail for £279.99.

Even with the price cuts the PS3 is still the most expensive console on the market and the savings are not expected to be passed on to the high street.
