hi does anyone know how i can tell if virgin has capped my internet connection as i have a 20meg and the last few days i have not been able to download anything over 60kb/s tried diff sites but will not go past 60kb/s

Sounds like you have a fault in your area or, more likely, your local UBR is suffering from capacity issues (due to VM over-subscribing in your area).

The capping system that VM use is called stm and only kicks in at various "busy" periods if you download what VM consider to be more than your fair share. If you haven't downloaded anything for over five hours then stm should not be active on your connection !

thanks for reply i think i will phone them as everything was ok but now download speed is crap i pay £37 for it so i want what pay for

got it sorted my son had changed settings in my torrent client so he can play fifa 09 online at same time as i downloaded so he didnt get lag

You can usually get it much cheaper than £37 if you do a bit of haggling with them.

If you have a phone line with them as well (£11) then the going rate for 20Meg BB is about £20 so both should still only cost you £31 !
