27th April 2008, 12:54 #1 metal gear OH DEAR!!!
Having given metal gear online 1 hr of my time i am totally gobsmacked at how crap it really is compared to cod 4 if the game moved any slower id fall asleep playin ,i know its supposed to be about stealth but jus doesnt work out like that and is just first to hide can shoot, aiming is crap (whats with L1 then triangle to aim it takes an age )and its very inaccurate. all in all a waste of my time ..
ps im sure ill get pelters for this but its my opinion

27th April 2008, 13:40 #2 your not alone mate, been thinking the very same. Ths was my first time at playing the MGS game as all my mates where saying u gotta try it out, upto now it's just rubbish in my view.
compaired to COD4 it's not going to last 5 minutes. The graphics are good but the movement of the play is just so slow and i really hate the 3rd person view, just doesn't work. Personally I love fast paced action and hate stealthy stuff because it gets boring easily.
after talking to some of my mates last nite at the pub, they were loving the game. I guess if you have played the MGS games in the past then you already love the format and how the game goes. but for someone like me just getting into it, isn't my thing

27th April 2008, 13:46 #3 A little unfair guys. MGS games are meant to be slower paced, they're not trying to compete with COD4, it's a different kettle of fish.
Not got a PS3 but I reckon the game looks fantastic and if it plays half as good as the orignals on the PSX and PS2 then I know I'll love it.

when i compared it to cod 4 i made the point of saying they are different but that doesnt mean online play cannot be compared ,playability and general gameplay can be compared with any titles. all i can say is give it a try deedie see what you think but i dont think the style of game works online and the controls are definatly too long winded to work , i mean you cannot have a gun in your hand and throw a grenadefor fooks sake, you have to enter a menu by which time you have been shot in the back and shooting at the enemy is completly random unless you enter aim mode which is a mammoth task when tryin to avoid a hail of bullets.
i just hope gta 4 online is better than this or it wont be worth buying either

28th April 2008, 08:04 #9 Never having played Metal Gear games before I didn't know what to expect and did find movement quite slow. The real drawback there is that after you die, and I do that a lot, you can re-spawn a fair distance from the action and then it takes an age to get back. Not good when you are on a timer.
Clearly this game works best as a squad based game and those that have practiced together and work as a team will win. Also bigger maps will allow the stealth aspect to come more fully to the fore. The map I played on was too small for stealth really, so it was just a walking pace free-for-all.

28th April 2008, 09:24 #10 I have to agree in places guys. Played for a couple of hours and it wasn't that it was slow-paced it was just that is was like playing Counter Strike in treacle. The aiming was poor and movement was un-responsice BUT this is only a Beta test. Things like "hey, it's too slow!" are things they will want to know so they can sort it out before shipping.
Also, for those who have not played Metal Gear Solid before, don;t compare this to the full game as they will be totally different.
I did notice that the GFX looked bad though. Character models where OK but some of the level looked like they had stumbled off the PS2.
All in all I hope the full game looks better and they tweak the online a bit more - end of the day the online is offered as a free bolt-on. With saying that it has made me stop my pre-oder of the game as I am worried about the look of the online beta.
Cheers
Moose
PS - It's worth a try btw so take a look 4 yourselves
