I forgot to unplug mains when I reached my hand into the PSU to plug the new fan in. Let's put it this way the PSU reminded me that I hadn't isolated the mains, lol. Or rather not lol, as the case was!!

25th April 2008, 21:56 #5 I managed to strip mine a few years ago as a short term measure as it was noisy.
I cleaned it as much as possible and put a fine smear of oil on the fan to buy me some more time before replacing the fan unit completely.
The capacitors in these things can hold a big-a$$ charge & give you a hell of a belt, so be very careful, if in doubt, leave it to someone who know's what they're doing (or someone you don't like).

25th April 2008, 22:07 #6 The fan spindle will probably have a sticker over it, remove it and use 3in1 oil which will lubricate the spindle.
This will probably only give you a few months grace before a new fan is required.

26th April 2008, 07:25 #9 the best lubricant for that is WD40. It won't damage the electronics
