Police examine 125mph YouTube video prank
A video clip that appears to show a driver filming himself tearing down a motorway at 125mph is being examined by police.
The footage, posted on the YouTube website, shows other motorists swerving to desperately avoid the man's car, which is being driven at almost double the speed limit.
The three-minute film shows the driver hurtling down the outside lane of the M23 in Sussex, before focussing the camera on his speedometer to reveal his speed.
A Sussex police spokesman said the video "will be considered for investigation for our road policing department".
"It's certainly something we would not agree with. If identified, strong consideration will be given to prosecution. It was a stupid thing to do."
The BBC reported that the clip was posted on the website by "paulscav", who claimed to be 23-years-old.
The clip has since been taken down.
YouTube does not comment on individual videos.
A spokesman said: "YouTube is a community site used by millions of people in very positive ways. As with any form of communication, there is a tiny minority of people who try to break the rules.
"On YouTube, these rules prohibit content like gratuitous violence or hate speech.
"We have a very successful flagging system on YouTube that lets users alert us to inappropriate content.
"When a video is flagged, we review it against our terms of use and remove it if the video breaks these standards and suspend the accounts of repeat offenders.
"Of course, if there is any illegal activity taking place or if the police think that a video may be evidence of a crime, then we encourage the police to get in touch with us under the laws the Government introduced for disclosure of data."

28th January 2008, 22:52 #3 personally i wish the prick had ended up stuffed in the central reservation and played his video at his funeral. only takes a split second to lose control at that speed, not concentrating and pi**ing about videoing yourself. could have been anyones family in the middle lane that could have been hurt cause of his antics

28th January 2008, 23:16 #4 so thats what the coppers do at work. sitting on the computer looking at youtube! whats next, the met appearing on facebook?
125 mph is not actually that fast in terms of the capabilities of todays car but it is EXTREMELY STUPID. kids, yes kids like that should not be allowed on the roads. a car is a dangerous piece of machine and i think an iq test should be introduced in the theory test.
its not speed that kills, its dangerous drivers and idiots who think speed is FUN should be put in jail.
