Recover data from your Profile
Hey Guys,
Just had my laptop hard drive die on me, and managed to mess up my profiles in the process. Just trying to salvage any data possible, so wondering if anyone had used any good tools. I can still access the laptop in safe mode but it seems to have wiped out all my profile and other data :-(
Any Helpful Suggestion??

a live edition of Linux will allow u to burn necessary data to cd. however u will ne to be able to find the data u need in the file structure..
might i suggest you use your xp cd and when booted up from cd press R to goto recover console
then there type
chkdsk /r
this will attempt to rebuild the file structure on your hdd and may take a good few hours
however any corrupt sectors will either be fixed or marked as bad

Did the chkdsk and that just made it worse because it tired to get ride of all the bad sectors and in turn removed my profile :-) - luckily i had a recovey software on there which seem to work still for some reason - so managed to get a few files - but still long way to go....

Try the following for live Windows XP CD which has NTFS read/write and CD burning tools.
