What operating system are you using? (XP , Vista)
With XP you go to Network Connections and right click the Local Area Connection you are using. Stay on the first tab (General) and in the middle section look for TCP/IP. Click on Properties and set a manual IP address (second option - "Use the following IP address") but has to be in the same range as your current IP.
To find out your current IP, go to a command prompt and type the word: ipconfig <Enter>
