    Can I replace a $ with a £?

Just bought a new logitech keyboard but it has an American layout on it. Don't mind that but want to replace the $ every time I use it with a £ sign. Seem to remember from the old DOS days etc that you could change characters around within the ASCII settings i think. Is this possible on a modern PC?

the keyboard is an american layout. In english uk setting where number 2 is above the q andw if you press shift 2 you get " instead of @. If I press shift 4 I get $ . I am set to english united kingdom keyboard. What I want to do is every time I press shift 4 is for it to print a pound sign and not a dollar. I don't mind changing it to english us setting and having the @ and " in different places as long as I can get a pound sign instead of a dollar sign. Any ideas?

All sorted bought a Logitech cordless from a high street shop, and swapped it over then took it back.
