Linux Help
Right anyone out there a Linux fiend...I've installed uBuntu Linux, v6.10, on my lappy (which now dual boots with Vista). I'm starting to get to grips with it, but I'm having trouble connecting to the wireless network, I can put in the ssid & the wep key, but it just sits there & seems to do nothing??? If I take off the wep on the router it'll connect???
Also, if I hook up the wired connection it works fine, any idea please peeps? I've tried putting the setting for the wep to plain text or hex, it doesn't seem to make any difference........

Hi MH
Yes m8 I do beleive so, it installed it all by itself & if I take the wep off, it'll work fine....but I don't want to do that here......

as I know some versions will allow lower case and can be case sensitive.
Also you would be better with Fedora

hmm......I'm putting it in in lower case as thats whats on the router.....Its a DLink dsl router modem, the key goes in as plain text (but is it hex or not???).
I went with uBuntu as its supposed to be the easiest....I tried the live CD first & thought I quite liked it....I'll perhaps down Fedora, can I just install over the top?

17th December 2006, 14:51 #6 the key will go in as plain text, but the router will convert to hex, for the security.

As for fedora, you will need to format that partition and install, as its a diferent version of Linux.
I find the redhat versions easier, as the compilers are built in and you can use rpms easier
