My XBOX 1 drive seems to have finally given up the ghost. I was getting dirty disk errors and cleaned it with a DVD lens cleaner. It's now completely dead!!

The XBOX has a 120 gb hard drive in, but many of my games are backed up only on Disc.

I see that I can buy replacement lasers for about a tenner, or replacement drive for about 30 quid on ebay.

I would assume it's the laser that's gone.

Are they easy to replace? Does anyone have a tutorial/guide on what I would need to do?

If it's teh drive, must I replace like with like (ie swap Thomson for a Thomson) or are they interchangeable?

I'm pretty sure that all dvd drives are interchangeable.

The only problem I had once was when trying to fit a dvd drive from a 1.6 crystal box into a standard box. It wouldn't read anything. I think it was a Phillips.
The seller wouldn't believe me until I sent it back and they tried it for themselves.
